Yayasan BUMN Launches the "Mendengar Jiwa" Program: Caring for Mental Health, Protecting the Future of the Young Generation

Jakarta, October 12, 2024 – In response to the increasing mental health crisis among teenagers, the BUMN Foundation has launched the Mendengar Jiwa program at Posbloc Jakarta. This program aims to provide concrete solutions for the younger generation who are increasingly vulnerable to mental health disorders.

For this reason, Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir encouraged the SOE Foundation to continue transforming in response to current and future issues in the form of mental health services.

"Currently, the Ministry of SOEs has provided facilities to support mental health in the workplace, because mental health is very important and concrete solutions are needed to handle it. Performance and productivity in the workplace are greatly influenced by the mental health of employees," said Erick Thohir.

Not only in the scope of the Ministry of SOEs, the Mendengar Jiwa Program is also present to provide a broad space through a holistic approach involving students, students, parents, and educational institutions. Collaborating with the Health Collaborative Center as one of the non-profit health advocates in Indonesia.

After successfully producing a program consisting of mental health screening through an easily accessible digital platform, education and training for students and parents, and closer access to mental health facilities. In addition, the program created the Soul Listening Zone which makes schools and campuses a safe space where students can discuss mental issues and seek help.

The Chairman of the BUMN Foundation, Syafuan, said that, "Based on the data, 42% students experience mild anxiety, while 40% new students have been diagnosed with anxiety before starting college (Infodatin & FISIP UI, Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia). Without proper treatment, this problem can increase the risk of substance abuse, decreased academic achievement, and self-harm. For that, we are here to provide solutions and invite all parties to care about this mental health issue," said Syafuan.

Highlighting the importance of psychological support since adolescence, a number of speakers such as Prilly Latuconsina, Dr. dr. Ray Wagiu Basrowi, Winy Nila W., Ariel Tatum, and other mental health observers, enlivened the event in an interactive talk show session. Participants were also invited to join a journaling session with Raden Prisya, meditation with Putra Wiramuda, and Art Therapy with Nathania Kusuma which aims to increase self-awareness and mental balance.

BUMN Foundation is committed to continuing to develop sustainable initiatives in supporting the mental well-being of Indonesia's young generation, through close collaboration with schools, universities, and health workers.
