Maritime Women: Bringing the Spirit of Change from the Coast
Yayasan BUMN
The sea holds great potential for Indonesia's future, but that future will not be achieved without the active role of coastal women. Realizing this, the BUMN Foundation presents the program Maritime Women as a real commitment to building an inclusive blue economy—with women as strategic actors in conservation, food independence, and community resilience. This program was born from the belief that the ocean is not only a source of life, but also a source of the future that must be protected together, especially by those who are closest to and depend on it.
By carrying the principle of an inclusive blue economy, Maritime Women building a collaborative ecosystem across academic sectors, research institutions, government, NGOs, social entrepreneurs, and state-owned enterprises. The goal is not just to provide support, but to build local leadership to make coastal women the main actors of change, not just beneficiaries.

In various coastal areas of Indonesia, Maritime Women deliver real impact through sustainable fisheries training, development of local food-based seafood processing technology, climate change education, and community-based environmental sanitation and health management.. Each initiative not only strengthens technical skills, but also builds leadership, the courage to dream, and the self-confidence of coastal women. By strengthening the role of women as managers of natural resources, this program contributes directly to local food security as the foundation of national food sovereignty. This program also instills a sense of ownership and mutual cooperation by introducing conservation to children at an early age, and encouraging communities to formulate collective solutions to the climate crisis.

Maritime Women is a small step from the coast that drives change – creating more empowered women, more prosperous families, stronger communities, and a more resilient Indonesia. Through this program, the BUMN Foundation affirms its commitment to bringing about real change: building a sustainable, inclusive, and equal future for all – starting from the hands of women, from the coastlines of Indonesia.
